For the first time ever, join string players across Malaysia at the RondoFest 2022. 4 days of lessons, workshops, masterclasses and concerts with internationally renowned artists. Interact and be inspired. Indulge in the festival of collaborative music-making alongside accomplished musicians. Come and catch us live in Penang and experience learning at the highest level.

Participants will have the opportunities to achieve a more comprehensive musical skills. They will also have the chance to perform alongside world-class faculties at the Closing Gala, which will mark the end of the festival.

Instrumental and Conducting Programmes

Instrumental Programme

The festival provides a wide range of opportunities to develop comprehensive musical abilities for violin, viola, cello and double bass students.

1-to-1 Instrumental Lessons *

Every active participant receives an hour of lesson with an artist faculty member to enhance his/her skill on his/her instrument.

Instrumental Masterclasses *^

Each masterclass focuses on a particular instrument (violin, viola, cello, double bass), as the faculty guides the participants through solo repertoire or orchestral excerpts.

Group Workshops *^

Each workshop covers topics such as music appreciation, leadership, history, and more to provide attendees with a well-rounded education.

Panel Discussion *^

The panel discussion addresses topics related to the professional development and career pathway of music students.

Ensemble Rehearsals *

The selected participants will rehearse with the artist faculty in preparation for the Festival Closing Gala. Audition is required to be part of the RondoFest Ensemble - click here for audition guidelines.

Performance Opportunity *

The selected participants also have the chance to perform alongside world-class faculties at the concert, which will mark the end of the festival. The concert will be opened for public to attend.

Networking Opportunity *^

The festival offers a great networking opportunity for music students, hobbyists, performers and educators all over the world to meet and connect.

Registration Process

FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS WHO WISH TO PERFORM AT THE CLOSING GALA

1. Register yourself (and your friends - take advantage of group discounts) soon, since registration fees vary with time.

2. A confirmation email with more information will be sent to your email address provided.

3. Please submit your audition materials by 30 June 2022. The audition is free of charge. Please find the audition materials below.

Frequently Asked Questions

General

We strongly encourage you to register as soon as possible because the fees vary according to time periods. Registration for participants closes on 31 July 2022. There is a separate deadline for programmes requiring auditions.

No, we do not impose any restrictions on the group formation. It can be from any circle of your friends and family. Do note that you are not representing any groups/organizations at the festival.

No, it does not include meals, accommodation and transportation. However, you are entitled to a complimentary discount at our official hotel – Tanjung Point Residences. Please complete the booking form here and send to admin@therondoproduction.com.my.

For groups of 15 or more people who wish to register for the festival, regardless of programme and category, please click here to complete this form to obtain a discount code.

Yes, we offer need-based financial assistance and scholarships. Please click here to complete the application form.

Yes, you may do so. It is worth mentioning, however, that both programs have scheduling conflicts, as indicated above. Fees paid will not be prorated and refunded.

Instrumental Programme

We do not encourage you to apply for both programs, as there are concurrent activities happening across both.

The festival is open to everyone, without auditions. However, in order to perform with the Festival Ensemble at the Closing Gala Concert, you must submit your audition tape. Step outside your comfort zone!

Unfortunately not. We encourage you to take this audition as a learning opportunity and we ensure you that the process is worthwhile for your entire journey!

You are encouraged to prepare your preferred materials (study/etude/concerto) for the individual lesson. However, if you need some suggestions, we will prepare a list of study repertoire for you to prepare before the festival.

Only a few participants can perform at the masterclasses. More information will follow. Everyone can observe the interactions between the artists and performers.

The schedule will be finalised closer to the festival. Email your conflict to admin@therondoproduction.com.my.

ConDUCTING PROGRAMME

A list of study repertoire will be provided upon registration. However, if you wish to bring your own pieces, please inform us at admin@therondoproduction.com.my.

All active participants (conducting programme) will have an opportunity to lead and conduct the Festival Ensemble at the Closing Gala Concert. This is subject to the faculty’s discretion, depending on the development of each active participant. Semi-active participants will not be considered.

Yes, you can still attend the festival as an observer.

Pianists are available for studio classes to perform orchestral reductions for the study repertoire, but they are not available for individual lessons.

You are allowed to sit in and observe all the rehearsals leading up to the Closing Gala Concert. Active participants will be given a chance to assist and conduct the Festival Ensemble, if necessary.

OTHERS

Get your friends to stay in the same hotel so that you can split the costs. In any case, if you need assistance in finding a roommate, you can email us at admin@therondoproduction.com.my. We will assist you.

It is recommended to arrive 1 day early on 5 September 2022. It is up to you to make further arrangements beyond the festival dates.

We work with a variety of partners to ensure a clean and hygienic environment. Also, we will make necessary announcements in compliance with the National Security Council.
