BIOGRAPHY

ZhiYong Tan (Yong Tan) is a Malaysia-based composer, arranger, and producer, currently studying music composition at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He enjoys writing instrumental music, electronic music, vocal works, and songs. Yong Tan believes that music can not only carry emotion, but also information. Therefore, his compositions often express issues such as environmental issues, social issues which include racism, psychology disorder and more.

Yong Tan’s compositions have been performed publicly in the US and Malaysia. He has received commissions for new compositions and arrangements for solo, chamber, and orchestra. In May 2021, his composition for woodwind quintet won the Pennsylvania Chamber Winds Call for Score. In September 2021, he won the Kyle Pearl 2nd Annual Open Call for cello solo. He has also participated in several music festivals, including the 2021 SMCC SoundBridge Virtual Festival Malaysia and the 2021 Malaysia Young Composer Workshop.
