Su Yin joined the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra as a sub-principal percussionist in January 2019. She studied with Paul Philbert and Matt Prendergast when she was a member of the MPYO (Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra) during her undergraduate study at the University of Malaya. Su Yin went on to complete her Master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, New York, studying with Duncan Patton, Chris Lamb, She-E Wu and Erik Charlston.
At the age of 4, Su Yin joined the Yamaha Junior Music Course and spent the next 16 years playing the piano. During those years, she also played the saxophone in her primary school band, and later joined her high school band as a percussionist and conductor.
Su Yin is sought after as a percussionist and has conducted workshops, masterclasses, and performed in most major cities in Malaysia. Su Yin also performed with the Macao Symphony Orchestra and Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Singapore.
Besides playing percussion, Su Yin also enjoys gardening, calligraphy writing and cooking.
