Lawrence Chiu graduated from Malaysian Institute of Art, majoring in flute performance under the tutelage of Mr. Foo Chie Haur. He later pursued his degree at UoS (University of Sunderland) and had the opportunity to learn from Amy Yule, the principal flute of Royal Northern Sinfonia during his stay in England. He is a current member of Philharmonic Winds Malaysia and Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO), and has performed with Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra, Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, Sunderland Symphony Orchestra, KLPAC Symphonic Band, Bede Wind and many others.

As a composer, Lawrence premiered his first orchestral work with the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra in 2018. He has composed a number of chamber music and premiered 15 works within last year itself. He has worked with Flutescents, Odyssey Trio, Kian Kok Middle School Concert Band, and other independent musicians and groups both in Malaysia and overseas.
