Armed with wide musical knowledge and versatility, Joachim Lim “performs with a razor-sharp edge” (The Straits Times) and is quick to adapt to fellow musicians or situations he is put into, be it with professional orchestras, collaborations with renowned artists, or studio recordings.
He graduated as Valedictorian, earning First Class Honours from both the Peabody Institute and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, as well as his Masters degree from the former. His mentors include marimba virtuoso Robert van Sice, Tom Freer, Ji Hye Jung, amongst others. Upon returning to Singapore, Joachim held his first independent concert that was praised as having “an aura of informal intensity”.
Apart from Classical achievements, Joachim also formed the classical-pop fusion group, Lorong Boys. Achieving overnight fame and success from spontaneous performances in Singapore trains, they are highly sought after and have performed for various key events. Joachim is also the percussionist for the TENG Ensemble, a collective that bridges Eastern and Western traditions, both old and new.
Joachim is currently Artist Faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
