Janis started working with the deaf since 2009 when she first started learning Sign Language. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Science at NUS, she went on to pursue her Masters in Deaf Education in the U.S. in 2011, where she taught students ranging from pre-kindergartners up to high school level. Upon graduation, she returned to Singapore and started teaching at the Singapore School for the Deaf. In 2018, she was posted to Mayflower Primary School as a specialized teacher for the first cohort of students in the newly established integrated programme for Children with Hearing Loss. Janis also freelances as a sign language interpreter, and made an appearance with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for their 2019 National Day Concert. She is currently a stay-at-home mother to be with her two boys.
