Daren Robbins has been on the faculty of the College of Music at Mahidol University (Bangkok, Thailand) since 2008, where he teaches horn, and brass literature and pedagogy, and coaches chamber music. He also serves as a manager of Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. He is an active member of the International Horn Society where he serves as its Regional Coordinator for Thailand and as the Editor of the Online Music Library.
Daren maintains an active and multi-faceted performing career. He has performed with various chamber ensembles around the world and with orchestras throughout Southeast Asia, and has conducted solo recitals and masterclasses at universities in the US, Europe and Asia. He has performed and presented at International Symposiums in Australia, Europe and the US, and has recently been featured at Beijing International Horn Festival in China and the Asian Horn Festival in Tokyo, Japan. He has also performed with the Mobile Symphony, La Crosse Symphony and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. He is an avid supporter of chamber music and has twice been selected as a finalist in Coleman Chamber Music Competition.
Daren’s students have enjoyed exceptional successes too. His students have performed with Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Sun Symphony Orchestra and Bandung Philharmonic, among others. He is also the coach of Horn Pure, an award-winning horn ensemble comprised of selected students from his studio and has performed worldwide.
Daren holds a D.M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a M.M. from the University of North Texas, and a B.M. from the University of Iowa. His doctoral dissertation project led to the creation of the website www.hornexcerpts.org, which is now the most frequently visited horn-related portal. His principal teachers include Douglas Hill, William Scharnberg and Kristin Thelander.
