Hailed from Penang, Alyssa Yam Khai Zhee started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 and the oboe at 13. Since then, she has performed with Penang Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), Penang Symphony Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO). She studied with Lee Chun Howe and Simon Emes in Malaysia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM), National University of Singapore, where she studied under Rachel Walker and Carolyn Hollier, both of whom are members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). Alyssa has collaborated with musicians from Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC), Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO), Philharmonic Winds Singapore, The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) and Singapore International Festival of Music Orchestra 2016 (SIFOM), among others.
